Father Jacques Marquette and explorer Louis Jolliet traveled in a small party starting from Green Bay down the Wisconsin River to the Mississippi River communicating with the tribes they met en route. Although Spanish trade goods had reached most of the native peoples these were the first Frenchmen to connect in the area named for the Illinois including the Kaskaskia. They kept detailed records of what they saw and the people they met sketching what they could and mapped the Mississippi River in . Their travels were described as first contacts with the native tribes though evidence of contact with Spanish from the south was clear.Subsequent to the arrival of French children in Quebec in measles was also brought along with them which quickly spread among the Native American people. Jesuit priest Jean de Brébeuf described the symptoms as being severe. Brebeuf stated that the Native Americans fearlessness towards death upon this disease made them perfect candidates for conversion to Christianity. The Native Americans believed that if they did not convert to Christianity they would be exposed to the evil magic of the priests that caused the illness. --ed4a5a9388c4ad8f81113bae9b6fd17b_23_4dd22 Content-Type: text/html; Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit

Red Copper Mug

Red Copper™ Mug

- Flavor Saving Red Copper™ Ceramic Available To Go!

Red Copper Mug keeps your drink fresh all day long, and won't leak with the leak-proof lid with patented drip guard design.
