The object was discovered on a co-added 810-s R-band CCD frame taken on 2025 Aug. 14.813 UT with the 0.65-m telescope at Ondrejov. The object was independently discovered on Aug. 15.087 UT by R. Fidrich and T. Tordai and designated as AT 2025twt. The object was designated by us as PNV J00423625+4114431 = M31N 2025-08a and is located at R.A. = 0h42m36s.25, Decl. = +41o14'43".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is 91.0" west and 85.4" south of the center of M31 (see link to discovery image below). Yamada (Tohoku U), report on behalf of the MAXI team: Queries: iwakiri@chiba-u.jp Posted: 16 Aug 2025; 00:36 UT Subjects:X-ray, Star, Transient The MAXI/GSC nova alert system triggered on an X-ray flare from the position consistent with the BY Dra type star HD 29697 during a scan transit at 21:35 UT on Aug 15 2025. The X-ray flux averaged over the scan was 74 +/- 19 mCrab (4.0-10.0keV, 1 sigma error). Since the distance to the source is 13.2123 pc (GaiaCollaboration et al.2020), the observed X-ray flux corresponds to a luminosity of about 3 x 10<sup>31</sup> erg/s. There was no significant excess flux with an upper limit of 20 mCrab in the next scan transit 23:08 UT.
